The Independent Adoption Center is a compassionate and dedicated open adoption agency. For over 25 years we have advocated fully open adoptions - while placing nearly 4,000 newborns - because open adoption serves the best interests of birthparents, children, and adoptive families.

As the largest and most trusted fully open adoption agency in the U.S., the Independent Adoption Center welcomes you!

Welcome to the Independent Adoption Center's adoption resources online. We are a nationwide nonprofit, domestic infant adoption agency. Our open adoption agency has been placing newborn babies with loving families for over a quarter of a century. The Independent Adoption Center stands out from other adoption agencies and professionals for several reasons.

  1. The IAC staff consists almost entirely of dedicated counselors with their Masters in Social Work who are trained to provide counseling and support through the adoption process.
  1. Our Open Adoption Agency was a major force in the development of open adoption, which has become the norm for 90% of adoptions in the United States today. As a result, the IAC has grown into one of the largest and most highly regarded Open Adoption Agencies in the country.
  1. Adoption costs for families who want to adopt a baby are fairly high and the process can seem grueling at times. The IAC understands this! This is why our fees are on a sliding scale and we support you through every step or your adoption.
  1. The Clinical Director of the IAC is a nationally regarded expert with forty years of experience in adoption. She has written numerous groundbreaking books including Dear Birthmother and Children of Open Adoption and has advocated extensively for open adoption. She provides the IAC staff with clinical supervision and oversight.
  1. The national reach of IAC public awareness campaigns enables us to place babies with an adoptive family in 12 months, on average. Most families have a placement between 6 and 18 months.
  1. The IAC is licensed in California, Georgia, Indiana and North Carolina and has placed newborns with families living in 37 additional states. In addition the IAC also has authority to provide adoption services in New York, and is authorized to place children for adoption in Connecticut.
  1. The IAC is one of the only adoption agencies in the United States that has never had any exclusionary policies for adoptive parents including age, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, ethnic background, or race.

Pregnant women who are considering making an adoption plan for their baby and families who are interested in adopting an US newborn are welcome to call the IAC and talk to a counselor who will provide more information. You may also use the buttons above to sign up for a free adoption information session or request that an adoption information packet is sent to you in the mail.

If you are pregnant and just starting to consider your options, please feel free to browse the adoptive family profiles to get to know our waiting families who have all been approved to adopt a baby. Call us anytime to receive confidential counseling.
